Welcome, Intro & Instructions

Jumpstart V2 ran from July 9th to August 10th, led by Estella (@magicfrog). Each Hack Clubber spent 20+ hours building a game to earn a game console to play it on! All submitted games are here for you to scroll through! I'm so proud of everyone who made a game. Each game is SO unique and SO cool (genuinely, you guys are insanely talented).

VOLUME UP!! When you hover over a game, the music from it plays. You can play each game on Itch, check out the code on Github, watch the gameplay video on YouTube, and read through the description, creator's thoughts, and their Slack game thread (start with game idea post, then updates, then final ship post). Go star everyone's repos, comment on Itch, and reply in their Slack game thread! Also join #jumpstart and say hi :).

Have fun playing everyone's games!!

About Jumpstart, Thanks, & The Future

Organizing Jumpstart V2 and also Jumpstart V1 has been great! I originally decided to run a game-dev YSWS (Jumpstart) because of Signal Lost, the game I made for Juice. It's been a mix of writing guides, building websites (like this one), searching for good game consoles, drawing stickersheets, figuring out Airtable, learning about fraud LOL, filming stuff for Instagram, designing some posters (on main page), recording video tutorials, and in general, experimenting and finding the best ways to help everyone ship an epic game. I have learned a lot in general and got some super helpful feedback!

Something I made for Jumpstart that I think was successful was Zorp. TL;DR: Zorp was a side event (managed by a Slackbot) where you complete challenges, earn coins, and then use the coins to buy up to 3 different stickersheets (planet, galaxy, and universe). This was the announcement post and this was a lore message I wrote for fun. There were 15 challenges, things like commenting on a game, helping someone fix a problem, drawing a game cover, hosting an online event, and more. You can run /collect, /what, /shop, and /leaderboard in the #jumpstart channel. I have a lot of thoughts about Zorp, but I'll save it for later :] .

Everyone in the Jumpstart community (V1 and V2) has GENUINELY been so kind and supportive to each other (it literally surprised me). It's awesome. Thanks @n0o0bl090lv, @ViviTheQueen, @The Rainy Parakeet, @JakeOJeff, @Bolb2019, and @esemv for the awesome energy (and everyone else)! And also @phthallo (ts #1 GOATed manager during my Hack Club intership when I started this!! ).

What's next? People are beginning to receive their game consoles! It's super exciting. Soon, this page will be updated with photos of people playing their game on the console they received. And what's after V2? Perhaps a V3? We'll see! :] Well one thing I've been working on is Jumpstart x Daydream. Also got a few more things I'm cooking up hehehe. If you wanna stay updated on my future Hack Club and life adventures, check out my Slack channel.
